A Day At The Beach

Harry B. Sanderford

Rothko and Stella loved the beach. To Jalapeno it was just one big litter box and for her it held no great appeal. She sprawled sunbathing on the dashboard lifting a lid occasionally to watch Kenny riding a wave. The dogs delirious with freedom romped and chased tight figure eights in water chest deep on little corgi legs. Jalapeno didn't like riding in the truck and she would never understand why dogs and humans like being wet so much. She licked a paw, caught a lovely whiff of something fishy on the seabreeze, stretched in her sunny spot and slept. Here's to good waves, long dogs and flexible cats.

Cute story! And I love Jalapeno for a cat's name. I bet she's going to have lovely dreams with the warm sun beating down on her and the wonderful fishy smells from the ocean wafting to her.

If you ever want a good time, pick up your cat and motion like you're going to toss her into the surf. If you survive the clawing, it's hilarious.

Ahhh, sunbathing on the dash. My favourite passtime. Nice little sunny day feel you got going here, Harry.

Harry, cats don't do beaches'n'stuff, they do naps'n'stuff, and this story has got me longing for warmer weather (it is 4 degrees here) I love the names too.

You're complaining about 4 degrees? Pfffft... it was like -26 here the other morning..
HARRY - first off, I love the photo... I used to have a cat that rode on the dash. Poor sweet puddy tat; can't tell you how many times he wound up on the floor when I stepped on the brakes. Is it yours? Is that your cat?
And Laurita's totally right - it has such a nice sunny day feel. The cat's observations are sweet, as is your description of the little corgi legs. I have had a thing for corgis since I saw The King's Speech.
But I digress. You are so lucky to live so close to, and enjoy so much, the beautiful sea.

Cheers right back at ya! A nice slice of life piece, Harry. And like Eric, I think Jalapeno is a great name for a cat.

I love the places that cats find to sunbathe (though I once spotted a dachshund sunbathing on the back of someone's couch). They're so delightfully laidback!

Harry - my thanks for your comments on Chopper John.
It's always a thrill when somebody gets what it is your trying to express.
Cheers mate.

I'm not really a cat person, but I could easily picture myself napping in the warm sun. Sounds like bliss! Nice short :-)

What a lovely story. Made me feel nice and *warm*!

Okay, I like the photo of the cat. Also a good story of said cat.

Can see why a cat would have litter-box issues on the beach and Jalapeno is a very neat name.

When it comes to the beach, I pretty much agree with Jalapeno. Napping in the warm sun is fun, though. Corgis are little nutballs. ~streettch~ ~yawn~ ~nap~
