All Sugar wants for Christmas is coffee in bed. She'd like just one long lazy morning with the Sunday paper strewn all over tarnation and Buck there beside her reading her funny and bizarre bits of news. Buck with his own brand of commentary of course, making her laugh and telling her she's pretty. He could light the wood stove and make blueberry pancakes while she looks over the sale ads, hollering to him when she spots a bargain. Maybe they'd work the crossword together while they ate, Buck making up words, Sugar rolling her eyes. After breakfast Buck might tell her she has syrup on her chin and then leaning in, kissing it away, find more on her cheek, her neck, her knee.

Very good feel to this and elegantly compact. Good to read something nice and normal, but heart-warming. I know a few moms/dads who have this on the list. The coffee and reading in bed, I mean, with no kids in sight... not the Santa thing... err... well, maybe that too... you know what I mean... lol
ReplyDeleteI liked this too. There seems to be a trend lately (or maybe it's just in my head) of microfiction that cuts out a nugget of life that's actually pleasant, or at least thematically warm. I'm really enjoying it. Thanks for sharing, Harry!

Short and sweet Harry, sugar sounds like a girl who likes the simple pleasures of life, good for her, and I am left wondering where the syrup trail was leading to. :D
